Raine & Horne Townsville Office Profile
TOWNSVILLE was founded in 1864 as a port but it has evolved to become the main regional hub of North Queensland, with a population of about 165,000 in the immediate region.
The Townsville region is blessed with a diverse natural environment, boasting over 300 days of sunshine each year. The city is along the vast Great Barrier Reef, and is in close proximity to tropical islands, rainforests and the outback.
It is one of the largest regional economies in Queensland, providing services to the mining, farming, educational and government sectors, as well as being a major tourist hub for North Queensland. Townsville has grown by about 8.8 per cent per annum in the five years to 2005, which augurs well for economic growth and increased economic diversification moving forward.
Development is currently running along at full steam in North Queensland and Townsville is no expection.
Major new projects are planned for the Yacht Club, the old Queensland Rail Yards and nearby Magentic Island which is just a 20 minute ferry trip from the city centre.
Housing stock in the area is varied, from modern family homes through to old Queenslanders and various forms of medium density housing from low rise to high rise, offering a wide range of options for owner occupiers and investor alike.
